I was formally known as MIOU, but I have recently changed my name to MIOU MAKIYAMA. Nothing to do with any legal hassles as Prince did….. These days I feel my name should represent my roots. which is a quite change. I used to conceal my origin because there were too many weird stereo types about Japanese, and I was eager to free myself from it by having the name that was stateless. Nowadays, people are more exposed to who we really are, thanks to Anime, pop culture. There are hardly any gaps between people’s perceptions and reality. Japan is a very unique country where traditional culture co-exist with cutting edge technology and new breed of creative thinkers. Growing up in that environment made me who I am now. I guess I’ve grown up enough to truly appreciate my origin and its identity. So the name Miou Makiyama symbolized progress within myself as well as progress of the rest of the world!!
